Sara Gideon (born Sara Marie Flanagan, December 4, 1971) is an American politician who served as the Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020. A member of the Democratic Party, she represented District 48, which comprised Freeport and Pownal, in the Maine House.
Before becoming Speaker, Gideon served as the House Majority Leader. Her legislative priorities focused on issues such as <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/healthcare%20access">healthcare access</a>, <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/economic%20development">economic development</a>, and <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/environmental%20protection">environmental protection</a>.
In 2020, Gideon ran for the United States Senate, challenging incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins. While she was considered a strong contender, she ultimately lost the election. Prior to her political career, she worked in marketing and communications. She is married and has three children.
